Full Event Information

Learn how to make this beautiful rope trivet using a traditional knotting pattern with just one piece of rope!

Join tutor Laurence to learn the techniques to make a knot pattern and create a beautiful round trivet or mat. You will be using a fid (a ropework tool) to master the skill of splicing to give your piece a professional finish.

This mat is perfect for protecting surfaces from large pots and dishes, or as a table centrepiece in itself.

The rope used is made from Flax, and is relatively soft on the hands when working.

Flax has been grown for its fibres in the UK for thousands of years, possibly as early as the late bronze age, and certainly by the middle ages. Linen cloth, woven from flax fibres, was an important alternative to woollen clothing, but the advent of imported cotton around the turn of the nineteenth century led to the demise of the flax industry in the UK.

Diameter: approx. 24cm (please note that dimensions are approximate, due to the handcrafted nature of this product).

No experience is necessary, just come along for a fun workshop and learn a new skill. Kits will be available to purchase to create more at home.

Suitable for beginners, minimum age 16+.

Cancellation deadline: 12th April

Cost: £30 to include materials, tea & coffee

NOTE: The Craft Barn is accessed via external stone steps and unfortunately may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
