Full Event Information

Learn how to make a beautifully bound, hand stitched journal or sketchbook in this Coptic Bookbinding Workshop. A lovely workshop for beginners.

Coptic is one of the oldest bookbinding stitches that allows a book to open out completely flat, which is great for writing and drawing. You will make a decoratively bound, A5 or A6 journal or sketchbook using a technique that dates back over 2000 years.

In this workshop, you will:
- learn about paper grain
- use traditional bookbinding tools
- learn how to cut and fold paper into signatures (inner pages)
- cover the hardback cover with decorative papers
- use waxed thread to personalise your book and create a beautiful book using the Coptic stitch technique

At the end of this workshop you will have a beautifully bound book as well as the skills and knowledge to create more at home.

Cost: £65 to include tea & coffee and all materials except the outer cover papers. Papers will be available to purchase from the tutor on the day at an extra cost of £2 - £6, but if you have something yourself that you would like to use, please bring it along, nothing too shiny as this type of paper tends not to work so well.

Bring: lunch and glasses if you wear them.

Customer cancellation deadline: 31st January

NOTE: the Craft Barn is accessed via external stone steps with handrails and may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
