Full Event Information

During this half day workshop, you will discover how to create a beautiful botanical imprint into clay before casting your very own Bas-relief.

Embed seasonal seasonal flowers and foliage, some homegrown (by Emma) or UK grown fresh and dried botanicals, and form your very own cottage garden, wildflower meadow, bouquet of flowers or choose a singular flower for impact. Choose to keep off-white or add pigments for colour.

You’ll take home at least 3 pieces of artwork including resin stands handmade by Emma for those smaller pieces.

In this workshop you will –

- Learn with a step-by-step demonstration, how to prepare your clay (a choice of grey air-dry Scola clay for that vintage look, or when adding colour, or DAS modelling white clay for those wanting more of a fresh look) before arranging your botanicals.

- Emma will guide you through selecting and arranging flowers and foliage. Learn how to press and roll them into the clay to best capture their delicate textures, shapes, and fine detail. Here you will form an imprint ready to pour eco resin into to form your bas-relief sculpture.

- Choose from a silicone hanging mould design (circular, wavy edged, heart) or a rustic handmade mould made by you (rustic circular, rectangular or square) for hanging or freestanding on a stand. Or chose both to discover different methods of casting.

- Add eco-resin pigment to colour your concrete casting for added effect or keep off-white before leaving to cure.

- Once you have got to grips with the art of sculpting, select a larger oval or round shaped hanging frame (for that vintage look) or create a larger freestanding mould shape of your choice for your showstopper piece.

- Demould your designs and prepare ready to finish deciding whether that it’s the natural look or work with watercolours (or acrylics), embellish with imitation gold leaf (other colours available) and/or seal with mod podge. Please note that the acrylics & watercolours will need to be fully dry before this is done to avoid smudging so this may be done at a later stage if we are struggling for time during the workshop.

Customer cancellation deadline: 30th October

Cost: £76 to include tea & coffee, biscuits, all tools and materials.
Nitrile gloves and masks will be available for those who are sensitive to dust particles.

Please bring: an apron that you don’t mind getting dirty. You’re welcome to bring cuttings from your own garden, certain dried flowers can also work well but fresh gives more of an imprint.

NOTE: This workshop is being held at a ground floor accessible venue in Lechlade and NOT at the Craft Barn.
