Full Event Information

Learn how to make a beautifully bound journal or sketchbook in this Coptic Bookbinding Workshop. One of the oldest bookbinding stitches, the coptic stitch allows a book to open out completely flat, which is great for writing and drawing.

This workshop is great for anyone who has an interest in bookbinding or just wants to make themselves or someone else a beautiful handmade gift. A lovely course for beginners

What is involved:

You will learn how to cut and fold paper into signatures, learn about paper grain, learn about and use traditional bookbinding tools and create a beautiful book using the Coptic stitch technique.

You will make a decoratively bound, A5 or A6 journal or sketchbook that opens out completely flat using a technique that dates back over 2000 years. The book will have hardback covers which will be covered with decorative papers. There will also be a selection of thread colours to use to really personalise your book.

At the end of the workshop you will have a beautifully bound book as well as the skills and knowledge to recreate more at home.

Cost: £45 to include tea & coffee, all materials except outer papers. Papers will be available to purchase from the tutor at a small extra cost, but if you have something yourself that you would like to use please bring it along, nothing too shiny as this type of paper tends not to work so well.

Please bring: lunch
Cancellation deadline: 14th November

NOTE: The Craft Barn is accessed via external stone steps with handrails and therefore may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
